September 22, 2015

Dear Families,

The Charles Ellis Montessori PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders, and community at-large is important for the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which celebrates partnerships between PTA and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students.

As a National PTA School of Excellence, families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. We feel Charles Ellis Montessori Academy and the Charles Ellis Montessori PTA can achieve that together – and the result will be national, state and community-wide visibility for the positive impact we are making together at Charles Ellis.

We need your help! As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families at two points in the school year – the beginning and end. Your feedback in the beginning of the program will help to generate a customized Roadmap to Excellence, which will provide specific recommendations for improving our family-school partnership and achieving excellence.

Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete the included survey.  You should select the option that most accurately expresses how you feel about your experience. This survey is completely anonymous. Please complete the online survey no later than October 16, 2015, as the survey will close on this date at 5:00 p.m.  TAKE SURVEY

Does this sound like a PTA program you’d really like to help with? Join us! Contact Gloria (gloria.ellispta@gmail.com) or St.Claire (stclaire.ellispta@gmail.com) to learn more!

Sincerely,

Gloria Rigsbee

Login to Mobymax from Home!

Please find the link to Mobymax on the right side of the screen. Your student can use this website at home to practice all subject areas. To sign in you will need to type in Ellis Montessori when prompted. Your student's username and password are their initials. For example, my name is Marianne Howze, so my username and password are both mh. If there is another student with the same initials you would add a 1 to both the username and password. If you have any questions please email me directly and I can assist you.

The Week of September 21
Room 21 Newsletter

Conferences have begun and I have really enjoyed meeting with each of the parents that have come in so far. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of you soon. Some of the topics we are discussing are test scores, work ethic and quality in the classroom, and grace and courtesy.  The first parent/teacher conferences serve as a great opportunity to share any concerns or ask any questions that may have come up since the start of school.

Please familiarize yourselves with the Charles Ellis Montessori Academy Family Handbook that is linked below. It can also be found posted on the right side of the Charles Ellis website.  There is a compact that will be signed at conferences, which goes along with the handbook.

*This week we will be sending home permission slips for all of our field trips for the entire year. Please send in $9.25 in exact change or write a check to Charles Ellis and return with the signed permission slips.

Student pictures are also going home this week. If you choose to purchase the pictures please select a package and return the rest of the pictures to school with payment. If you do not choose to order the pictures just send the entire package back to school intact.

We are accepting any marker that is ready to be thrown out.  Our PTA is sending them in to Crayola for recycling.  Just send them in with your child!

Please bring the family for the Erdkinder (middle school) Sidewalks Arts Festival being held at our school on Friday September 30, 2015!  Details are on the Charles Ellis Website. All proceeds go back to the Erdkinder for field trips.

Lower Elementary Homework

Dear Parents,
Dr. Montessori believed that if we do not dictate the work of the child in class, then it does not make sense to dictate the work they choose at home. With this in mind, the Lower Elementary teachers have decided to align our homework procedures more closely to Dr. Montessori’s beliefs. We encourage activities which constructively direct a child's pursuits, nurture their interests, and build family bonds such as; washing dishes, watering plants, feeding pets, clearing the table, putting their clothes away, cooking with an adult, constructing and building, art/craft projects, family game night, cultural outings, sports practice, etc. We will no longer send weekly homework with your child unless the family requests it. If you choose to have homework sent home with your child, it should be reviewed at home; it will no longer be collected on Fridays. We do encourage each child to continue reading nightly. We will also make skill specific practice available to your child if the need should arise. If you need any further information or you would like homework sent home with your child feel free to email.
Thank you,
The Lower Elementary Teachers

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4fabac2aa6f49-fall

Welcome to the Room 21 blog! In an attempt to be more environmentally friendly, this blog will be used in place of a class newsletter. I will post here often, so please make sure that you check this site at least once a week.

We have had an eventful first month of school, and students have been working diligently in the classroom.

Language Arts-
parts of speech
compound words
roots and suffixes
cursive writing

Mathematics-
hundred board activities
stamp game (dynamic addition and subtraction)
geometric solids
word problems

Practical Life-
zoology
botany

Please remind your child that it is up to them to behave responsibly in school. The 3rd graders are role models for the younger students, and it is imperative that they set a good example for their Montessori classmates.
