Dear Parents,
Dr. Montessori believed that if
we do not dictate the work of the child in class, then it does not make sense
to dictate the work they choose at home. With this in mind, the Lower
Elementary teachers have decided to align our homework procedures more closely
to Dr. Montessori’s beliefs. We encourage activities which
constructively direct a child's pursuits, nurture their interests, and build
family bonds such as; washing dishes, watering plants, feeding pets, clearing
the table, putting their clothes away, cooking with an adult, constructing and
building, art/craft projects, family game night, cultural outings, sports
practice, etc. We will no longer send weekly homework with your child unless the
family requests it.
If you choose to have homework sent home with your child, it should be reviewed
at home; it will no longer be collected on Fridays. We do encourage each child
to continue reading nightly. We will also make skill specific practice
available to your child if the need should arise. If you need any further
information or you would like homework sent home with your child feel free to email.
